Mark Rubin to Chair NYSSCPA FAMILY OFFICE COMMITTEE
Mark B. Rubin, CPA, a senior managing director and head of FTI Schonbraun McCann Group’s (SMG) Private Client Tax & Advisory Services Practice, has been appointed chair of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (NYSSCPA) newly-formed Family Office Committee. Rubin was chosen by NYSSCPA President David J. Moynihan to lead the committee, whose mission is to develop best practices for CPAs who work as family advisors and to develop a body of knowledge in the professional community about how to approach family-controlled entities as well as the intricacies of family practice.
Rubin was also recently appointed chair of the Family Firm Institute conference. With more than 25 years of experience working with family business and family offices, Rubin oversees service delivery at SMG to private enterprises, family businesses, family offices and high net worth executives in the following areas: Income Tax Planning and Compliance, Asset Protection and Estate Planning, Multigenerational Succession and Governance Planning, Financial Planning, Philanthropic Advisory Planning, Family Office Services and Trust Accounting Services. A recognized leader in advising multigenerational families regarding tax planning and long-term wealth preservation, Rubin is known for his work in developing tax and governance structures for multigenerational groups concerned about long-term protection of their shared assets.
Rubin is author of soon-to-be-published Beneath the Skyline, which focuses on the contributions that real estate families have made to social institutions globally and the impact those contributions have had on the families themselves. He hosts Informal Conversations, a semi-annual series of seminars held at the Harvard Club on topics relevant for Private Clients, and has presented at various industry conferences, including: "An Evening of Family Philanthropy with Michael Steinhardt" (JCF of MetroWest), "Wealth, Family Values & Philanthropy" (Institute for Institutional Research), "Tax and Real Estate Update - Future of Family Owned Real Estate" (IPI Spring Forum), "Large Family Office Facilitation" (FOX Member Event).
